Paragraph 175
a staged reading of an original play by Robert Bayuk

Saturday, September 12 - 12:30 pm
Myrna Loy Center
Free Admission
Please stay afterward to talk with the writer and actors

This is a Myrna Loy Center Grants to Artists project.

Five actors and a “stage manager” (reading stage directions) present a live reading of an original play by Robert Bayuk.
Paragraph 175 is a contemporary, two-act drama set in Berlin, Germany just after the rise of the National Socialist Worker’s Party (Nazis) in 1933. Two German citizens are taken into custody by members of the SA militia (Brownshirts) and brought in for questioning under the direct orders of Josef Goebbels, Reich Propaganda Minister. The two prisoners, Gustav Milo (a prominent gay artist) and Alexander Goldberg (a 17-year-old Jewish scholar), appear to have no connection to one another except for their relationship to Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, the founder of the Institute of Sexual Research. So what is it the Nazis want? Combining present-day reflection with yesterday’s prejudice, playwright Robert Bayuk has woven a theatrical tapestry too rich to be ignored.
