From the little-known Gullah tradition of the South Carolina sea islands comes a quintet with a sound so deeply American—so uniquely New World—it has shaped our nation’s art, food, language and attitude. Gullah music, wildly exotic yet deeply familiar, feels like the epicenter of American blues, soul, and gospel music. Since exploding on the scene at GlobalFest 2017, Ranky Tanky has played Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Monterey Jazz Festival, and is now ready to hit the Myrna Loy.
